Josie Rewald Memorial Community College Scholarship

In September 2016, our dear friend and SWE Life Member, Josie E. Rewald, passed away unexpectedly. Everyone who knew Josie is saddened by the passing of a wonderful leader and mentor in SWE Detroit and General Motors. Josie was committed to excellence, and her record of accomplishment during her career was stellar. She was very interested in mentoring students and early career engineers, in particular women. She served as a mentor to many at GM and SWE Detroit, as well as those in and outside of her community. In Josie’s honor, SWE-Detroit has endowed the Society’s first scholarship specifically for community college students. You can apply for this scholarship using the same application linked above.

A special thank you to our scholarship sponsors!

SWE-Detroit Torch Award

SWE Detroit would like to honor the education of aspiring engineers and those who mentor aspiring engineers. This award is symbolic in allowing us to “pass the torch” to future generations. This recognition program will be awarded to two teachers (Middle School and High School) who are focused on mentoring young women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The recognition would enable continued support of their mission in the form of a $500 grant for STEM education supplies for the awarded teachers and free K-12 Educator SWE membership, who might not otherwise be able to obtain such resources.
